OUR FOCUS

Our focus and commitment are on patient education.

From teaching parents how to care for their babies’ and young children’s teeth, encouraging children to look after their teeth to help establish an early routine, to giving teenagers and adults the special care they may need to restore their oral health, we are here to help and guide our patients every step of the way.

Having had a significant focus on preventative dentistry for the past fifteen years we are proud to be able to see outstanding results and proof across our patient portfolio that this approach has been extremely successful, resulting in the majority of our patients requiring minimal treatment allowing us to focus on an excellent programme of oral health maintenance and a continued emphasis on prevention.

During every appointment we always take time to talk about any dental problems our patients may have and discuss the best treatment options to suit their needs and budget.

We understand that our patients are all unique and so we tailor our care to make sure that the needs and aspirations of each individual, from the most nervous patient to someone who is looking for a full smile makeover, are met from the first appointment until the completion of their treatment plan.

Stephen McKinstry

Stephen McKinstry

Dentist

BDS QUB MFDS RCPS (Glas)
GDC Number: 150546

Stephen graduated from Queens University Belfast in 2008 with a distinction in his Bachelor’s degree in Dental Surgery. He was awarded one of only four places on the highly sought after General Practitioner Training Scheme, allowing him to develop a wide range of skills in orthodontics, teeth aesthetics, paediatric dentistry and oral surgery.  This helped him develop the ability to make patients feel comfortable about both attending the dentist and receiving treatment.

People who know Stephen are aware of his enthusiasm - not only for dentistry, but also his keenness to learn and develop his skills and knowledge so he is able to deliver the most up to date treatments. Stephen continued his post-graduate studies and was awarded a Diploma of Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow) in 2010.

Combining his love for travel and his desire to experience something new, he decided to test himself in New Zealand where he gained invaluable experience in a range of modern Oral Surgery techniques, furthering his ability to deliver a very high standard of care to his patients. Loy Dental Care has been his home since returning from working in New Zealand.

Stephen has a keen interest in Dental Implants and Cosmetic Dentistry. In order to develop key skills and experience in these specialties, Stephen completed a year of demanding training in implantology in the prestigious Fortwilliam Clinic in Belfast, and also two further years of training alongside some of the top international dentists in these fields of dentistry. He has also been awarded certificates in recognition of these achievements and is delighted to offer these Gold Standard treatments to patients at Loy Dental Care.

Stephen is a member of the Irish Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry. He is involved in both a local and international study club with Dentsply Sirona Academy and Implants and Beyond Association.  This allows him to complete well over 100 hours CPD every year, which is reflected in the high quality of the most up to date treatments you will receive.

As well as the cosmetic side of dentistry, Stephen is committed to the motto that “prevention is better than cure” and he believes this is why it is still the forefront of modern dentistry.

A family man at heart, Stephen loves spending time with his wife Lynette and their wonderful kids. You may also hear him talking about sport and his other job.... farming.
